DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team won all six singles matches and added two more doubles wins in its hidden dual against Gonzaga on the second day of the Colorado Cup at Denver Tennis Park on Saturday.
 
After the doubles duos of Theo Coats and Tom Noltorp¸ and Aaron Beduhn and Connor Robb-Wilcox claimed routine wins, DU nearly had the clean sweep until a late break gave Gonzaga what would be its only victory of the day.
 
Five of Denver's six singles wins came with seven or fewer games lost by the Pioneer in the match. Sophomore Samuel Rovai and Beduhn matched each other's results identically with just five games dropped, as did Noltorp and senior Ryoma Mishiro with only six games apiece lost. Robb-Wilcox started with a 6-2 win before closing with a tight 7-5 second set.
 
The day's battle came on Court 1. After Coats easily claimed the first set, Gonzaga's Giovanni Branchetti broke late to force a decider. The players traded breaks before Coats faced down a 0-40 deficit on his serve to win the first match point at deuce.
 
The Colorado Cup concludes on Sunday at Denver Tennis Park with Gonzaga versus Grand Canyon and Montana State at 9 a.m. MT, followed by Denver versus Air Force at approximately 1:30 p.m. MT. Admission is free all weekend long.
