SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver men's basketball graduate student forward Jeremiah Burke has been named the Kwik Star Summit League Men's Basketball Peak Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Burke led the Pioneers in road tests at Seattle, [rv/rv] Washington and Montana State to open the season, averaging 19.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in the three games.
In the Pioneers first win under first-year head coach Tim Bergstraser on Sunday, Burke led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, and pulled down seven boards in Denver's 75-73 win at Montana State. Burke also added 15 points at Washington and a team-high 21 and nine boards in the season opener at Seattle on Monday.
The North Dakota State transfer averaged 37 minutes a game (17th-highest in the country) in the season's opening week, and last Monday, became the first Pioneer to play 40 minutes in a regulation game since Jase Townsend did so in the 2020 Summit League Tournament against NDSU.
In the season's opening week, Burke was 13th in the country in field goals made (21), 15th in total points (59) 114th in points per game (19.7), 99th in total rebounds (19) and 48th in total three-pointers made (8).
Burke is the seventh different Pioneer to earn Summit League Player of the Week honors since the program joined the conference in 2013-14, and is the first Pioneer other than Tommy Bruner to win the award in nearly five years.
