DU Women’s Soccer Falls in Summit League Semifinal

Denver drops 0-1 result to South Dakota State on Thursday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Denver women's soccer team (9-5-4, 6-1-1 Summit) outshot South Dakota State, 12-9, but was unable to find the back of the net in a 0-1 loss in the Summit League semifinals on Thursday afternoon.

The teams entered halftime in a scoreless draw before SDSU found the opener and what would be the only goal in the 73rd minute. Denver continued to press for the final 17 minutes and found chances in the final third but could not find the equalizer.

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
  • DU held the lead in shot attempts in both halves including 8-6 in the second half.
  • Senior Lily O'Grady and redshirt senior Samantha Dreiling shared the match lead in shots with four apiece. O'Grady put half of hers on target.
    • Each of their four shot attempts tied them for third most by a Denver player in a single Summit League tournament match.
  • Denver made six entrances into the final third in the last 10 minutes of play, resulting in two shots and three offsides calls that negated two more.
  • Redshirt senior Alina Santos made two more saves, bringing her to 77 on the season and moving her into eighth in Denver's NCAA Division I record book for saves by an individual keeper in a single season.
FIRST HALF:
17' | Redshirt sophomore Luci Vincent took a look at goal from the right side of the 18-yard box but sent it over the crossbar.

29' | Senior Isabella Chidiac sent a free kick from 30 yards out toward the right post but narrowly missed an approaching and well-defended redshirt junior Emma Thielbahr.

37' | On a corner kick taken short, redshirt freshman Rowan LaPiano carried the ball along the edge of the box and tapped it to O'Grady, who pushed it just a foot or so wide of the left post.

SECOND HALF:
48' | A cross into the box from freshman Lilly Lund found Chidiac in the center of the six-yard box, though her shot went wide right.

72' | SDSU's Lauren Walter found the ball at her feet about 25 yards out and pushed it past Santos and into the upper right corner of the net.

81' | From the edge of the box, redshirt junior Hannah Tate tried to tuck the ball between the keeper and the crossbar but missed high.
