LOS ANGELES – The University of Denver men's tennis team opened up its final fall tournament with six total wins at the LMU Invite on Friday.
DU started the day with a doubles matchup against UC Irvine and won all three matches. The teams of
Theo Coats and
Connor Robb-Wilcox, and
Aaron Beduhn and
Ryoma Mishiro each won with 6-2 scorelines before
Tom Noltorp and
Raffaello Papajcik completed the sweep with a 7-5 win.
In singles against Denver's future West Coast Conference opponent, Coats and Mishiro won in straight sets. Noltorp fought back from a set down to win a tight 7-5 second set on his way to a three-sets victory. Robb-Wilcox, too, began a rally after dropping the opening set to take the second but was given the win after his opponent retired early.
Beduhn was close to adding a fifth singles victory for Denver after taking the first set but dropping the next two, both in tiebreaks. Papajcik returned to the court for the first time since the ITA Mountain Regional Championships after missing last week's Colorado Cup with a minor injury.
The LMU Invite continues on Saturday with DU playing against Utah in doubles at approximately 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT followed by a matchup with UC Irvine in singles.
