EWU opened the game on a 6-0 run and controlled the first quarter, taking a 25-14 lead as Denver managed just two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws. The Pioneers trimmed the deficit in the second quarter, highlighted by an and-one from Monclova, but still trailed 34-30 at halftime.
Denver flipped the momentum in the third. An Ana Conde 3-pointer gave DU its first lead, 37-36, at the 6:50 mark, and an 8-0 run pushed the advantage as Denver held EWU scoreless for over than three minutes. Six points from Karolina Padilla helped the Pioneers carry a 52-48 lead into the fourth.
Monclova knocked down a 3-pointer early in the final frame to keep Denver up by six, and a steal and score from Watts held the 63-59 Pioneer lead with just over two minutes left. But the Pioneers faltered late, Eastern Washington converted a layup and capitalized on consecutive turnovers by Monclova, the Eagles sank a pair of free throws and then scored the go-ahead basket with 1.3 seconds left.
