WACO, Texas – The University of Denver women's tennis team (1-3, 0-0 Summit) got off to a hot start against Nebraska on Saturday but ultimately dropped the neutral-site match, 3-4, on Saturday morning.
Doubles:
Denver captured the doubles point within about a half hour with wins on the top two courts. Senior
Andrea Burguete Beltran and junior
Marley Lambert won their third match in a row and did so with their best result in a dual match so far at 6-2. Juniors
Claudia Martinez de Velasco and
Louise Wikander stayed perfect on the year thus far with a second consecutive 6-3 win.
Junior
Hana Bečirovič Novak and freshman
Natálie Cinková were knotted up at 4-4 when the point was clinched, leaving their match unfinished.
Singles:
Wikander put DU up 2-0 overall with her first singles win of the season and did so with just four games lost, capped by a 6-1 second set.
Burguete Beltran collected her third dual win at No. 1 singles in 2025 and also did so in straight sets and in similar fashion as Wikander. After a closer 6-4 win in the first set, she closed it out with a relatively easy 6-2 second set.
Nebraska gained its first two points with wins in straight sets in Nos. 3 and 6 singles. The last two courts to finish both went to three sets, and both saw the Pioneer force a decisive set after dropping the opener. Martinez de Velasco kept things close in her third set but forfeited a break in what would be the final game. Bečirovič Novak couldn't overcome an easy deficit in the third set.

The University of Denver women's tennis team next plays on Sunday, February 2, in a match at No. 25 Baylor set for a 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT start.
