DU Hockey Stays Ranked at No. 6

Pioneers host No. 17 North Dakota this weekend

DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team stayed ranked at No. 6 nationally in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls that were released on Monday.

Denver went 1-1-0 last weekend at then-No. 12 Arizona State in a series that featured two overtime contests.  The Pioneers won 5-4 in extra time on Friday before falling 6-5 in OT in Saturday's game.

Boston College is the unanimous No. 1 team in the country in both polls, earning all 50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com ranking and all 34 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live list.

Ahead of DU in each poll is Michigan State at No. 2, Western Michigan at No. 3/4, Minnesota at No. 4/3 and Maine at No.5. WMU holds the three-spot in the USCHO.com ranking while Minnesota is third in the USA Hockey ranking.

Denver is presently at No. 9 in the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the NCAA Tournament field.

The NCHC has the second-most teams ranked among all conferences in each poll, with six in USCHO.com and five (tied) in USA Hockey/The Rink Live. After Western Michigan at No. 3/4 and Denver at No. 6/6, Arizona State comes in at No. 10/11, North Dakota at No. 17/17 and Omaha at No. 20/20. Colorado College ranks at No. 19 in the USCHO.com poll and is receiving votes on the USA Hockey list.

UP NEXT: No. 6 Denver hosts No. 17 North Dakota this weekend in a matchup between two teams battling for home-ice advantage for the NCHC postseason. Friday's game begins at 7 p.m. MT and will be nationally televised on CBS Spors Network. Saturday's start time is 6 p.m. MT and will be televised regionally on Altitude 2 and online at NCHC.tv.
