FAIRBANKS/ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Denver Pioneers ski team wraps up the 2025 regular season with three meets this week in Alaska, culminating in the RMISA Championships and NCAA West Regionals.
DU's Nordic squad will make its second trip to Alaska after starting the season in January at the U.S. Cross Country National Championships and Alaska Anchorage Invitational. RMISA alpine squads will travel to America's Last Frontier for the first time in 2025 as they wrap up the UAA Invite with slalom and giant slalom races, as the Seawolves' home meet this season stretches across the entire collegiate campaign.
Alaska Anchorage is hosting the conference championships of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association for the second time in three years after also doing so in 2023.
Denver is presently in first place in the Seawolf Invite and has a seven-point edge over Utah after a strong performance by the Nordic team last month.
The races in Alaska begin on Sunday, Feb. 16 with the Nordic-only Alaska Fairbanks Invitational, which will be held on the new competition trails on the UAF campus. Classic sprints begin the meet on Sunday before the 10-kilometer freestyle interval start on Monday.
Alpine starts racing at the UAA Invite with giant slalom on Wednesday, Feb. 19 before the RMISA Championships, which doubles as the NCAA West Regionals, begins on Thursday with the GS as well. The Alaska Anchorage Invitational will conclude with slalom on Friday, Feb. 21, the same day as the Nordic teams begin their RMISA Championships with the 7.5K classic interval start.
This year's conference championships conclude on Saturday, Feb. 22 with alpine slalom and the Nordic 20K freestyle mass start. The RMISA Championships format aims to mirror what the athletes will face in about two weeks' time at the NCAA Championships in New Hampshire, with alpine giant slalom starting the meet and the Nordic mass start finishing it.
The Nordic races for the RMISA Championships will be held at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, while all of the alpine races this week will be at Alyeska Resort in nearby Girdwood.
In the regular-season RMISA standings, Denver is currently in third place with 631.5 points and trails second place Utah by 18.5 points and first-place Colorado by 41.5 points.
