Denver Women’s Tennis Sweeps Colorado State

DU grabs 4-0 win for second victory of 2025

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team (2-7, 0-0 Summit) collected its second win of the 2025 season and did so with a 4-0 sweep over in-state opponent Colorado State on Sunday morning.

Denver again captured the doubles point before adding wins at Nos. 4 and 5 singles while also earning a point off a walkover from CSU at No. 6 singles.

Doubles:
For the second day in a row, Denver's top two doubles teams clinched the first point of the day. On Court 1, senior Andrea Burguete Beltran and junior Marley Lambert equaled their best result of the 2025 dual season thus far with a 6-2 win, breaking initially to go up 3-1 and adding a second break for 5-2 before serving it out at love.

Juniors Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander moved to 7-1 in duals this season with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point for DU. They came back from a break down in their second service game before gaining their own break lead to go up 5-3 and served out the match at deuce in the following game.

At No. 3 doubles, junior Hana Bečirovič Novak and freshman Natálie Cinková were all level at 5-all but were sitting on two break points when the match was abandoned.

Singles:
DU went up 2-0 on the scoreboard before the start of singles with CSU unable to field a sixth player. Bečirovič Novak put Denver within a point of the win with only four games dropped at No. 5 singles. Her first set found a tight start before she gained the first break lead of the match for 4-3 and added a second break in what would be the set's final game. She followed it up with four consecutive games won to begin the second set and then won two of the final three games overall.

Martinez de Velasco secured the sweep with a 6-2 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. In the first set, she broke in consecutive return games to take a 4-1 lead before eventually serving it out at 6-2. The first nine games of the second set all saw breaks for the returner before the DU junior found the first hold to close out the match.

Wikander was at match point against her opponent's serve at No. 2 singles when the match was abandoned. She used a late break to win the first set and was up 5-2 in the second.

Burguete Beltran, too, was up a set and a break in her match. She started with an early break to gain a lead she never surrendered on her way to a 6-3 first set and was on her way to a similar victory in the second set, leading 4-2 when the dual was clinched.

Lambert was battling back after dropping her first set on Court 3, trading breaks to begin the second set and holding game points to go up 4-3 on her serve when the match was abandoned.
