GIRDWOOD, Alaska – The Denver Pioneers had four skiers place in the top 11 on Thursday in alpine giant slalom to begin the 76th annual RMISA Championships at Alyeska Resort.
Graduate student
Loic Chable led Denver with a fourth-place finish in the men's GS and was just four-hundredths of a second off the podium. Junior
Adrian Minde Hunshammer posted a season best with his first top 10 of 2025 in ninth, and freshman
Pietro Motterlini placed 11th. Senior
Sara Rask led the DU women in sixth place in the opening race.
Additionally, senior
Eirik Kveno came in 18th and sophomore
Christian Soevik ended in 21st for the Pioneer men.
Four Denver skiers recorded DNFs on the day, as freshman
Stella Buchheister didn't complete her first run on the women's side while junior
Mia Hunt's second descent was cut short after having the eighth-fastest time initially. For the men, senior
Cooper Cornelius didn't finish run 2 while junior
Thomas Hoffman was disqualified in his afternoon ski.
Colorado's Magdalena Luczak won the women's GS for the second-straight day and was joined on the podium by Utah's Claire Timmermann in second and Westminster's Elise Hitter in third. The Buffaloes also had an individual win on the men's side with Louis Fausa taking the top step; UU's Johs Herland was second and Montana State's Jamie Casselman placed third.
As a team, the Pioneers are in fifth place at the quarter-pole of the conference championships with 100 points. Utah leads with 178 points, while Colorado is second with 146 points. Montana State is third with 137 points and host Alaska Anchorage is three points up on DU with 103 points for fourth place.
UP NEXT: Both alpine and Nordic are in action on Friday to kick off two full days of racing in the Anchorage area. Alpine switches to the slalom at Alyeska Resort to resume and conclude the Alaska Anchorage Invitational. Nordic starts its RMISA Championships on Friday with the 7.5-kilometer classical interval start at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.
Saturday is the final day of the main campaign and serves as senior day to conclude 2024 RMISA Championships. Alpine races in slalom at Alyeska while Nordic wraps up its meet with the 20K freestyle mass start.
