DENVER, CO -- The Denver women's basketball team kept North Dakota State to just 20 percent from 3-point range, but fell, 64-59, to the Bison at home Thursday.
The Pioneers (8-18, 1-12) had three players score in double figures, led by Jordan Jones, who had 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Angelina Robles tacked on 13 points and two steals and Coryn Watts chipped in as well with 11 points off the bench.
The Denver offense was very productive from three point land, making nine threes on 19 attempts. Watts was the most prolific shooter for the Pioneers, draining three treys in the contest.
Denver forced 18 North Dakota State turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Thursday's game. The Pioneers turned those takeaways into 12 points on the offensive end of the floor. Jones' three steals led the way for Denver.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-5, Denver went on a 5-0 run with 4:20 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Robles, to take a 10-9 lead. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 17-14.
Denver then started off the second quarter by going on a 6-0 run to take a 20-17 lead. The Bison then came roaring back to take a 33-30 lead heading into halftime.
Denver's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Pioneers faced a 51-39 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Denver turned two offensive rebounds into two second chance points on the way to scoring nine total points in the quarter.
Denver narrowed its deficit to 61-51 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Watts' three, to shrink the deficit to 61-57 with 35 seconds to go in the contest. North Dakota State responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 64-59. Denver fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
