Pioneers Named to 2024-25 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team

Denver hockey also has 13-of-15 eligible players recognized as Distinguished Scholar-Athletes

DENVER – The University of Denver hockey program had 15 returning players named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and 13 Pioneers earned 2024-25 NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced last Thursday.

To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or better, while having completed at least one full academic year at their current institution. Student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better are honored as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, in addition to Academic All-Conference.

NCHC will add freshmen and first-year transfers to the lists this summer after the academic year is completed.

Overall, 131 players throughout the conference were honored and 91 of them earned Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition. Athletic success and playing time are not criteria for these awards.

Kent Anderson, Cale Ashcroft, Garrett Brown, Boston Buckberger, Connor Caponi, Kieran Cebrian, Matt Davis, Jack Devine, Paxton Geisel, Freddie Halyk, Sam Harris, Carter King, Rieger Lorenz, Aidan Thompson and Jared Wright are DU's members of the 2024-25 All-Academic Team. Anderson, Ashcroft, Buckberger, Caponi, Cebrian, Davis, Devine, Halyk, Harris, King, Lorenz, Thompson and Wright were recognized as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes as well.

Seniors Devine and Davis have been named to the Academic All-Conference Team and Distinguished Scholar-Athlete in each of their last four seasons at DU. Senior King, who joined Denver midseason during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 campaign, and graduate student Caponi have been named to the Academic All-Conference Team five times at DU, with King also earning distinguished honors each year.

Denver's 13 distinguished scholar-athletes are the second most among all NCHC teams.

The Pioneers have five freshmen and two transfer students that will be eligible to for the conference academic honors after the spring quarter has concluded June.
