DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team ranks No. 6 nationally in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls that were released on Monday.
Denver went 1-0-1 last weekend against the Omaha Mavericks. The teams tied 3-3 on Friday night before the Pioneers won 11-2 on Saturday night to tie the NCHC record for the most goals in a league game in its history. Overall, DU earned four points on the weekend in the conference standings, as the Mavs won the end-of-game shootout on Friday in 16 rounds—the longest in league history—to earn the extra point.
Boston College remains as the No. 1 team in the country and earned 48-of-50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and 33-of-34 top votes in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live rankings.
Ahead of DU in both polls is Michigan State at No. 2, Minnesota at No. 3, Western Michigan at No. 4 and Maine at No. 5.
Denver is presently at No. 8 in the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the NCAA Tournament field.
The NCHC has the second-most teams ranked among all conferences with five. After Western Michigan at No. 4/4 and Denver at No. 6/6, Arizona State comes in at No. 12/12, North Dakota at No. 16/16 and Colorado College at No. 20 in the USCHO.com poll and is receiving votes on the USA Hockey list.
