DENVER - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team fell to the Stony Brook Seawolves, 17-8, on a windy Tuesday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Pioneers and Seawolves were neck-and-neck through the first quarter of play with goals from
Kyra Obert,
Olivia Ripple and
Eva Thomsen-Marr. Stony Brook pulled away in the second frame with four unanswered goals before Denver responded with a pair of goals by
Raegan Wilson and
Lauren Black, taking a 9-5 deficit into the locker room at halftime.
Caroline Keil and
Lindsey Wilmot each found the back of the net in the second half, alongside Black's second of the day but the Pioneers were unable to overcome the early deficit, ultimately falling, 17-8 to Stony Brook.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Black led the Pioneers with two goals and two assists while Thomsen-Marr added on a goal and a pair of helpers.
Megan Klingenberg led the defense with four ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers. Denver held the advantage in the draw circle, 17-9, with strong efforts by
Alex Dorr with five draw wins,
Raegan Wilson with four and
Sarah Pokorny tacking on three.
Lexi Gwaku made a career-high seven saves between the pipes.
