Denver Falls St. Thomas in Summit Quarters

DeAndre Craig and Josh Pickett led the way for the Pioneers in their final game of the 2024-25 season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The seventh-seeded University of Denver men's basketball team's season came to an end at the hands of second-seeded St. Thomas in the second Summit League Quarterfinal on Thursday night inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

The Pioneers (11-21) had two players score in double figures, led by DeAndre Craig, who had 15 points. Josh Pickett tacked on 14 points and Nicholas Shogbonyo added seven points and six rebounds.

NOTES:

  • St. Thomas has won six of the last seven meetings.
  • Denver fell to 5-10 in the Summit League Tournament since joining the league in 2014.
  • Josh Pickett finished with 14 points and 3 rebounds.
  • Pickett finished in double figures for the second-straight game and for the fifth time in his freshman season.
  • DeAndre Craig finished with 15 points and 2 rebounds
  • Craig finished in double figures for the 11th-straight game, the 23rd time this season and the 34th time in his career.
  • Craig has finished in double figures in all four of his career games in the Summit League Tournament.
  • Sebastian Akins finished his freshman season with 403 points, DU's Division I rookie record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

St. Thomas came out shooting the lights out, finishing 7-for-12 in the opening 20 minutes from beyond the arc. The Pioneers struggled to get into their offensive groove and fell behind by 16 at the break.

The Tommies' defense continued to cause problems in the second half. St. Thomas kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 80-55 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 80-62 with 22 seconds to go in the contest.
