Denver Knocks Off No. 9 Stanford 14-9

The Pioneers defeat nationally-ranked Stanford for their 10th-straight win against their former conference rivals

STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team bounced back from a gut wrenching overtime loss a week ago with one of its best performances of the year, a 14-9 win on the road at No. 9 Stanford on Sunday afternoon at Cagan Stadium. Sunday's victory was the Pioneers second over a top-10 team this season.

Lauren Black led the Denver offense with six points on four goals and two assists, shooting 4-for-5 on the day. Eva Thomsen-Marr chipped in a five-point afternoon on a pair of goals to go with three helpers. Olivia Ripple put up another four goals to continue her outstanding sophomore season, netting at least four goals in each of the last four contests. Caroline Keil rounded out Denver's multi-goal scorers with a pair on 2-of-5 from the field.

On the defensive side of the ball, Carly Frohnapfel had a team-high three caused turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls to lead the way. Lindsey Wilmot, Maddie Montgomery and Megan Klingenberg all had a pair of CTs. Landry Grover led the Pios with five ground balls in the win.

Denver held a 14-13 edge in the draw circle, including 6-3 in the opening 15 minutes. Alex Dorr controlled eight draws, while Raegan Wilson hauled in four.

The Pioneers had to work from behind on Sunday, trailing 6-4 with 13:52 to go in the second quarter before reeling off four-straight in a run spanning over halftime to flip the script and take an 8-6 lead.

Stanford pulled it back to within one on two occasions, the last of which at 9-8 with 3:16 to go in the third before the Pioneers offense put together another big run, scoring the next five goals, including the first four of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 14-8 with 4:38 to play in regulation.
