DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program has signed former Bucknell forward Ian Motta to its 2025-26 roster, first-year head coach Tim Bergstraser announced on Friday.
"Motta is a big time get for our program," Bergstraser said. "He's an intense competitor with a winning mentality. Ian can do a bit of everything and something he's exceptionally good at is shooting. His ability to score in multiple ways with his size will be a great contribution to our offense."
Motta has made 104 career appearances at the Division I level in his four years at Bucknell, averaging 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in his career with the Bison. Last season, Motta averaged 10.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Motta finished in double figures in 14 contests, including in three of seven last year.
In his four seasons in Pennsylvania, Motta shot 36.9% from beyond the arc, knocking down 73 of his 198 attempts from three-point range. Motta hit multiple three-pointers in 21 games in his four years at Bucknell, including three times in seven games last season.
Motta is the 10th new Pioneer to join the roster since Bergstraser took over as head coach in April, joining an MSUM quartet of transfers in Corleone Dandridge, Shaun Wysocki, Carson Johnson and Logan Kinsey, Missouri Western State transfer Zane Nelson, former Western Illinois and Kent State guard Julius Rollins, former Pima CC center Gabe Oldham, North Dakota State transfer Jeremiah Burke and South Plains forward Didier Maleng who signed earlier this offseason.
