ABOUT THE RUMBLE IN THE ROCKIES
The University of Montana hosts the Rumble in the Rockies invitational on August 21-24. Four teams will take part in the event: host Montana, Denver, Baylor and Seattle.
Denver and Baylor open up the weekend with their neutral-site match on Thursday before Montana hosts Seattle that evening. DU and SU will then face off on Sunday morning before Montana and Baylor close out play on Sunday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT:
Denver finished the opening week of the season with a scoreless draw at Colorado College on August 17. DU led CC in shot (15-10), shots on goal (7-3) and corner kicks (5-1).
Redshirt sophomore
Kera Nguyen led both teams with two shots on target. Five different Pioneers tied for the team lead in shots with two each.
QUICK HITS:
- Redshirt senior Samantha Dreiling was named the Kwik Star Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week following her two-goal performance and game winner in the season opener at Air Force on August 14.
- It was the second brace and game winner of her career.
- She became the fourth Pioneer with a multi-goal game in a season opener and the first since Kristen Hamilton in 2011.
- Through two matches, 18 Pioneers have seen playing time with freshman Annie Philbin and redshirt juniors Emma Thielbahr and Alina Santos playing all 180 minutes thus far.
- Thursday's match is Denver's first of five against a Power-Four opponent this year.
- DU will host Texas A&M and Colorado while also making visits to Arizona and Arizona State.
- Denver went 1-2 against Power-Four opponents in 2024, logging a 3-2 upset victory on the road at Texas A&M.
- DU played to one-goal performances against eventual NCAA champion North Carolina (1-2) and Colorado (0-1) last season as well.
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
This will be just the second meeting between Denver and Baylor, and the first since DU's second season at the NCAA Division I level in 1999. BU came away with a 2-1 overtime win in that first meeting on October 22, 1999, in Denver.
Baylor began the 2025 season with a 1-1 tie against future Denver opponent Texas A&M on August 14. Lauren Omholt scored an 80
th-minute equalizer after allowing the Aggies to score in the fourth minute.
