ABOUT THE RUMBLE IN THE ROCKIES
The University of Montana hosts the Rumble in the Rockies invitational on August 21-24. Four teams will take part in the event: host Montana, Denver, Baylor and Seattle.
Denver and Baylor opened up the weekend with a neutral-site match on Thursday before Montana hosted Seattle that evening. Both matches on Thursday ended in draws.
To finish the weekend, DU and SU will face off on Sunday morning before Montana and Baylor play on Sunday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT:
Denver earned a 0-0 draw against Baylor on Thursday afternoon, despite playing with only 10 women for nearly 70 minutes after redshirt sophomore
Nora Zelazny was issued a 22
nd-minute red card for denial of a goal scoring opportunity.
Redshirt junior
Alina Santos tallied a career high-tying eight saves while classmate
Hannah Tate added a ninth Denver save with a clearance off the goal line late in the second half.
QUICK HITS:
- Denver faced 23 shots from Baylor on Thursday, the most without conceding a goal for a DU team since at least 2002.
- Santos is currently riding a 187-minute shutout streak – the longest by a single Denver goalkeeper since she went 289 minutes without allowing a goal from August 25 – September 5, 2024.
- Denver has not conceded a goal from the run of play in 299 minutes since a 61st-minute goal from South Dakota State in the 2024 Summit League semifinals on November 7, 2024.
- For the first time in program history, Denver posted consecutive scoreless draws with its results at Colorado College on August 17 and against Baylor on Thursday.
- Thursday's match was Denver's first of five against a Power-Four opponent this year.
- DU will host Texas A&M and Colorado while also making visits to Arizona and Arizona State.
- Sunday versus Seattle will end a four-match DU road trip to begin the 2025 season, the longest such streak since 2015.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS:
This will be just the second meeting between Denver and Seattle. The teams' only other meeting was a 2-0 win for DU in Seattle on October 28, 2012.
Seattle finished in a 1-1 tie against this weekend's host Montana on Thursday evening. The Redhawks got on the board in the fourth minute off an own goal from Montana before the Griz equalized in the 53
rd minute. SU's lone goal so far in 2025 came from Alana Lamb with an assist from U'I Kaaihue in a season-opening 1-0 win against Eastern Washington on August 14.
UP NEXT:
Denver finally hosts its home opener on Thursday, August 28, when it welcomes Texas A&M to University of Denver Soccer Stadium at 4 p.m. MT. The match is part of a double header with the Denver men's soccer team, which will host San Diego that evening.
