MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Denver women's soccer team (1-0-3, 0-0-0 Summit) saw a 76
th-minute equalizer from senior
Brooke Ahern to help the Pioneers finish with a 1-1 draw against Seattle in their second match of the Rumble in the Rockies, hosted by the University of Montana, on Sunday morning.
Seattle got on the board first in the 56
th minute before Ahern capitalized on Denver's third corner of the match. Freshman
Annie Philbin got the initial shot off from senior
Isabella Chidiac 's service, but her shot came off the bottom of the cross bar. Ahern collected the rebound and tapped it across the line.
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- Ahern's equalizer was her second career goal and her first since her freshman season at Utah.
- Philbin earned the first assist of her career on the goal.
- Denver's three consecutive matches ending in a tie are the most since posting four in a row to begin head coach Julianne Sitch 's tenure at the start of the 2023 season.
- Through the first two weeks of the season, Denver has yet to allow a first-half goal to an opponent.
- Seattle's 56th-minute opener ended a streak of 242 minutes between goals allowed by redshirt junior Alina Santos.
- Freshman Kacey Harvey made her first collegiate start while classmate Lilly Lund made her second after doing so in the season opener.
- Junior Alanna Raimondo also made her Denver debut as a first-half sub and started the second half.
FIRST HALF:
5' | The first DU shot of the day saw a curling effort from Lund that made it on target for an easy SU save.
17' | From the top of the 18-yard box, redshirt senior
Audrey Miller took a look with a bit of pace behind it but had it grabbed by the SU keeper.
37' | Denver's first corner of the morning saw an initial header from redshirt junior
Emma Thielbahr before the ball fell low before reaching the net.
SECOND HALF:
56' | A couple missed touches and a rebound given up from Santos led to a tap-in goal from SU's Caroline Penner.
67' | Redshirt senior
Samantha Dreiling looked for Lund with a well-placed cross at the far post of the SU goal, but some solid defending from a Redhawk kept the DU freshman from getting a shot off.
76' | Chidiac took a Denver corner and connected perfectly with Philbin in the center of the penalty area. Philbin's shot glanced off the bottom side of the crossbar and out, falling to Ahern at the back post where she pushed it past the keeper.
88' | After initially juggling a cross from her left, Santos recovered and got some help from redshirt junior
Hannah Tate to clear away the final offensive look for either team.
