DENVER – University of Denver hockey freshman goaltender
Quentin Miller was named to the 2026 Mike Richter Award Watch List, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced last week.
Miller is one of six NCHC goalies and 29 nationally to be named to the Watch List by the Hockey Commissioners Association. To qualify for the Watch List, a goaltender must have compiled a 2.40 goals-against average or lower, or a .917 save percentage or higher, while playing at least 33 percent of their team's minutes in net.
In 23 games this season, Miller has registered a 2.37 goals-against average and .917 save percentage and ranks tied for third in the nation in shutouts (3) and 11th in wins (11). He earned back-to-back NCHC Goaltender of the Month awards for November and December and has been named the NCHC Goaltender of the Week three times and Rookie of the Week once.
Miller paced all NCHC goalies in wins (3-tied), goals-against average (1.80) and save percentage (.940) in the December and recorded his third shutout of the season with 22 saves on Dec. 5 vs. No. 19 Miami. The keeper stopped 44-of-46 shots in the series vs. Miami on Dec. 5-6 and made 37 saves on 38 shots faced on Dec. 12 at St. Cloud State. He picked up his first top goalie honor in November after posting a 6-2-0 record, 2.08 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and one shutout in eight outings. Both losses in the month came in overtime, and he allowed two goals or fewer in five of the contests.
The Montreal, Quebec, native has started 22 straight games dating back to Oct. 18 at Lindenwood, the longest streak by a DU netminder since
Matt Davis played the final 26 outings to close out the 2023-24 campaign. Miller didn't lose in regulation in a 12-game stretch from Oct. 31-Dec. 12 (9-3-0), which included allowing one goal or fewer in six outings and a pair of shutouts. He went on a personal-best, six-game winning streak from Nov. 1-21 and registered career highs in both games at Western Michigan, stopping 35-of-36 shots on Nov. 7 and 41-of-44 pucks his way on Nov. 8.
The Montreal, Quebec, native began his collegiate career on a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) and recorded a 117:17 shutout streak by tying Air Force in the season opener on Oct. 10 (1-1) before posting his first career win in a shutout at Lindenwood on Oct. 18 (4-0) and beating Boston College on the road on Oct. 24 (7-3).
Magnus Chrona was the last DU netminder to go unbeaten in his first three career starts, as he won his first seven outings to begin the 2019-20 campaign.
Denver has had one previous recipient of the Mike Richter Award, with
Tanner Jaillet picking up the honor in 2017. Recent DU netminders
Matt Davis (2025) and
Chrona (2023) have been named semifinalists for the award in recent years
The NCHC's other five goaltenders that joined Miller on the Richter Award Watch List are Minnesota Duluth's Adam Gajan, Western Michigan's Hampton Slukynsky, North Dakota's Jan Spunar and Arizona State's Connor Hasley and Samuel Urban,
Other goaltender may be added for consideration before the first formal vote but by the voting committee. The electorate is made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media and will pare this list down to approximately a dozen semifinalists within the next three weeks. Three finalists will be named and the winner will be announced on April 10 during the NCAA Frozen Four in Las Vegas, Nevada.
