DENVER – University of Denver women's tennis players
Louise Wikander and
Claudia Martinez de Velasco combined to sweep the Kwik Star Summit League Players of the Week awards for the second week of the season, the Summit League announced on Tuesday.
Wikander was named the Summit League Singles Peak Performer of the Week while also earning a Doubles Peak Team of the Week honor with doubles partner Martinez de Velasco.
In singles, Wikander moved up to the No. 1 slot for the first time in her career and collected a straight-sets win in DU's 6-1 victory over Seattle in the team's dual-season opener on January 23. She recovered from being a break down and saved a set point to force a tiebreak and win it before jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the second set on her way to a 6-2 win.
Wikander also teamed up with Martinez de Velasco in doubles and clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. They converted all four break points earned against their opponents' serves.
This is the third Singles Peak Performer of the Week of Wikander's career and the third Doubles Peak Team of the Week for Martinez de Velasco/Wikander together in their careers. In total, Wikander now owns six combined weekly Summit League awards, and Martinez de Velasco now has five. This week's awards are the first for DU women's players this season.
Denver continues its home stand to start the 2026 dual season with back-to-back days at Denver Tennis Park, first hosting Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, January 31, at 1 p.m. MT before welcoming Colorado on Sunday, February 1, at 4 p.m. MT.
