Denver Comes Up Short Against North Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. -- The University of Denver women's basketball team fell to the NDSU Bison, 55-95 on Thursday night in Fargo, North Dakota.

Coryn Watts led the Pioneers with 19 points and Jocelyn Medina added 13 points and two rebounds.

The Bison opened the game on a 6-0 run and stretched the lead to 14-2 after holding Denver scoreless for the first 2:30. Watts ended the drought with a 3-pointer at the four-minute mark, and the Pioneers answered with a brief 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 17-11 late in the quarter. North Dakota State closed strong, taking a 20-11 lead after one.

Both teams were scoreless through the first two minutes of the second quarter before the Bison took control. North Dakota State capitalized on a Denver shot-clock violation and turnover to push the lead to 30-16. A basket by Laia Monclova briefly slowed the momentum, but the Bison responded immediately and buried another 3-pointer to extend the advantage to 38-18. Denver went scoreless over the final 3:59 of the half and trailed 48-18 at the break.

Denver continued to struggle offensively coming out of halftime. Ana Conde opened the third-quarter scoring with a 3-pointer at the 7:56 mark, but the Pioneers were held without a field goal for more than four minutes. Karolina Padilla broke the drought with a layup in the final minute, though North Dakota State had already built a commanding 75-37 lead entering the fourth.

The Bison maintained their offensive rhythm in the final quarter, trading baskets while controlling the glass. Fouls piled up on both ends, but Denver again went more than three minutes without a field goal before Padilla scored late but Denver fell, 55-95.

Up Next: The Pioneers travel to Grand Forks to take on North Dakota on Saturday afternoon.
