DENVER – Denver Pioneers hockey freshman
Quentin Miller was named the NCHC Goaltender of the Month for December on Monday by the National Colligate Hockey Conference.
This honor marks Miller's second straight Goaltender of the Month award after he also picked up the award in November. The freshman posted a 3-1-0 record in December, starting in all four games with the Pioneers. He led all NCHC goalies with at least two games played in the month with a .940 save percentage and a 1.80 goals-against average. The rookie was the only NCHC goaltender to record a shutout in December, while his 109 saves ranked third in the conference last month, averaging 27.25 saves per game.
Miller started December by leading the Pioneers to a series sweep against No. 19 Miami on Dec. 5-6, making 22 saves each night and allowing only two goals during the weekend. The Denver goalminder earned the NCHC Goalie of the Week recognition from the two wins against the RedHawks, which included his third shutout of the season in the series opener. He repeated with top goalie honors the next week after helping Denver to a series split at St. Cloud State. Miller stopped 37-of-38 shots in a 5-1 win in the series opener at SCSU on Dec. 12 and proceeded to make 28 saves the next night in a 4-3 loss, ending his 12-game streak without a loss in regulation.
The Montreal, Quebec, native currently owns an 11-6-2 record in 19 games this year, including starting each of Denver's last 18 games since Oct. 18 at Lindenwood. His .926 save percentage this season is second in the NCHC, and his 2.08 goals-against average ranks third in the conference.
Arizona State's Bennett Schimek was named the NCHC Forward of the Month, while North Dakota's Jake Livanavage was chosen as of Defenseman of the Month and goalie Jan Špunar from was selected as Rookie of the Month. Denver Pioneer

Kyle Chyzowski was in the running for NCHC top rookie recognition.
Miller is now eligible for the Hockey Commissioners Association's (HCA) national monthly goaltending honor that will be announced on Thursday.
