DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team ranks No. 8 in the nation in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey media polls after the latest rankings were released on Monday.
DU ranks eighth in both polls for the third straight week and have been at that position in the USCHO.com poll for the third week in a row. The Pioneers are also No. 8 in the NPI computer rankings that determine the NCAA Tournament field.
Denver is unbeaten in its last seven games (6-0-1) and is coming off its fifth series sweep of the season after defeating Omaha 5-2 last Friday and 3-1 on Saturday on the road.
Michigan State remains the top team in the land in both rankings while Big Ten-rival Michigan is at No. 2. The NCHC's North Dakota is at No. 3 and Western Michigan is at No. 4, while Quinnipiac comes in at No. 5
The NCHC leads all conferences with five teams ranked in the USCHO.com polls and is also first with the most in the top 10 on each list with four. Minnesota Duluth is at No. 9 in each poll, while Miami ranks No. 20 in USCHO.com and received votes in USA Hockey.
The Big Ten, CCHA and Hockey East all have four ranked squads in the USCHO.com poll, while the CCHA leads all conferences on the USA Hockey list with five after Bowling Green State entered this past week at No. 20.
UP NEXT: Denver is on its only bye of the campaign and returns to action to close out the regular season versus Arizona State on Feb. 27-28 at Magness Arena. Both games will be broadcast on NCHC.tv and Saturday's contest will also be televised regionally on Altitude 2.
