Denver Men’s Tennis Set to Take on DePaul, Northwestern

DU to play season’s second neutral-site match against DePaul on Saturday, then face off against host Northwestern on Sunday

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (4-2, 0-0 Summit) will finish up a four-match road trip with two duals in the Chicago area on February 21-22.

DU will first meet DePaul in a neutral-site match on Saturday, February 21, at 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT before playing at host Northwestern on Sunday, February 22, at 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT.

Last Time Out:
DU traveled to Boise, Idaho, for its first road duals of the year, meeting Wichita State for a neutral-site match and playing at Boise State on February 14-15. The Pioneers fell in both matches, 2-5, though competition was tighter than the final scorelines suggested.

Against Wichita State, Denver dropped the doubles point by the narrow margin of a 5-7 loss in a tiebreak on court 1. Five of the six singles matches all went to third sets with sophomore Samuel Rovai and graduate student Connor Robb-Wilcox earning wins.

A day later, host Boise State won the doubles point before senior Raffaello Papajcik leveled the scoreline with a straight-sets win on the top court. Once again, five singles matches ended in decisive sets, and sophomore Theo Coats collected a win on court 3.

The double duo of Rovai and senior Ryoma Mishiro were named the Summit League Doubles Peak Team of the Week after earning a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Wichita State and leading 5-2 against Boise State before their match was abandoned.

Series History:
DePaul: Denver and DePaul have met five times previously with the Pioneers holding a 4-1 record. The teams have not played each other in more than a decade, last meeting at DePaul on April 10, 2015, in a 5-2 Denver win. Both times the teams played at a neutral site, Denver also collected wins, most recently 4-3 on April 2, 2011, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Northwestern: This will be just the fourth meeting between Denver and Northwestern. NU leads narrowly in the head-to-head, 2-1, though the teams have not seen each other since 2013 in a 5-1 win for Northwestern at DU. In Evanston, Illinois, the teams are even at 1-1, though Denver holds the win in the most recent meeting (4-3 on March 4, 2012).
