Johnson Named Summit League Peak Performer of the Week for Third Time

Sophomore guard Carson Johnson is just the second Pioneer to earn three career Summit League Player of the Week honors in program history

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver men's basketball sophomore guard Carson Johnson has been named the Kwik Star Summit League Men's Basketball Peak Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Johnson opened the week with his third 30+-point game of the league campaign, knocking down 5-of-7 triples en-route to a 32-point game in the Pioneers 20-point win over South Dakota on Thursday night. The Ankeny, Iowa, native followed that up with 25 more on 8-of-13 shooting and the game-winning assist in Denver's 82-80 win over St. Thomas on Senior Saturday in Hamilton Gymnasium.

Graduate student guard Julius Rollins and Johnson because the first Pioneer duo to score 25+ in the same game in the program's DI history. In the win on Saturday, Johnson also became the third player in program history to score at least 600 points in a single season, joining Yemi Nicholason (2005-06, 616) and Tommy Bruner (2023-24, 816). Johnson's three 30+ point games also tie him for the second-most in a single season in program history.

Nationally, Johnson continues to rank in the top-10 in the country in 20+ point games this season, sitting seventh entering the week. Johnson's 17, 20+ point games this season have come in bunches, including nine of his last 11 in Summit League play.

Johnson's award is the third of his career, with all three coming during conference play in his first year in the league. The three Summit League weekly honors put him in second behind Bruner's five honors in the 2023-24 campaign.
