BOZEMAN, Mont. – Graduate student
Sara Rask and senior
Mia Hunt both placed on the podium and three other University of Denver skiers finished in the top 10 on Thursday in the RMISA Alpine Qualifier slalom at Bridger Bowl Ski Area.
Rask earned her 20th career victory and seventh of the season and Hunt posted a big second run to move from seventh in the morning to second overall in the women's event. Hunt recorded the third-fastest time in run 2 to finish in 1:42.99, trailing Rask by eight-tenths of a second (1:42.19). Tea Kiesel of host Montana State was third.
The runner-up placement by Hunt ties her career best from the slalom at the Colorado Invitational at Loveland Ski Area earlier this season on Jan. 13 and marks her third career podium. She's finished on the stage in three of the four slalom events she competed in this year.
Joining the DU duo in the top 10 on the women's side was freshman
Cecilia Pizzinato in seventh and sophomore
Stella Buchheister in ninth. Pizzinato registered her 10th straight top 10 of her rookie campaign and tied her season best in slalom (fourth time), while Buchheister placed in the top 10 for the fourth time this season.
Seniors
Nicola Rountree-Williams and
Josephine Trueblood placed 14th and 15th respectively. For Trueblood, it was her seventh career top-15 finish and fifth of the season.
Adrian Minde Hunshammer led Denver in men slalom as the senior climbed from 16th after run 1 to finish 10th—his eighth top 10 of the season and 12th of his college career. Freshman
Caman Beauregard also had a big afternoon descent, as he moved nine spots from 21st to 12th.
Grad student
Eirik Kveno came in 19th and senior
Thomas Hoffman was 21st. DU's
Elisabeth Creighton (women's run 1) and
Christian Soevik (men's run 2) both did not finish.
Johs Herland of Utah won the men's race while CU's Filip Wahlqvist placed second. Westminster's Benjamin Angerer came in third ahead of fourth-place teammate Alejandro Puente Tasias.
No team scores were kept on Thursday as the race served as an additional qualifying opportunity for the athletes for the NCAA Championships. The 2026 postseason officially gets underway on Friday with the RMISA Championships, which doubles as NCAA West Regional.
UP NEXT: The RMIS Championships begin in full on Friday with another day of alpine slalom at Bridger Bowl Ski Area while the Nordic squads race in the 7.5K classic interval start at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah. The conference meet and western regionals wrap up on Saturday with alpine giant slalom and the Nordic 20K freestyle mass start.
