Three Pioneers Earn Top-Four Finishes on Night Two at NICs

DENVER – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming programs wrapped up day two at the 2026 CSCAA National Invitational Championships on Friday morning at the FAST Facility in Ocala, Florida.

Denver's men sit eighth of the 30 teams that have scored heading into the final day on Saturday, while the women rank 16th of 52 scoring teams at the national meet.

The Pioneers had three underclassmen combine for three top-four finishes on Friday night, led by sophomore Hamish McLellan's second-place finish in the men's 100 fly.

How it Happened
Denver's women opened night two with an 11th place finish in the 200 medley relay, while the Pioneer men took 16th in the relay.

In the first individual race of the night, junior Sabrina Rachjaibun dropped 1.39 seconds off her prelim time to take eighth in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:17.87.

In the men's distance medley, Nico Morton held his fourth place spot from the prelims session with a time of 3:51.09, improving on his time by 2.74 seconds from Friday morning's time.

Building off last night's win in the 50 fly, freshman Julia Saxman shaved more than a half a second on her prelims time in Friday night's 100 fly finals, finishing fourth with a 53.34.

Sophomore Hamish McLellan finished second in the men's 100 fly by the slimmest of margins, clocking in at 46.69, 0.01 seconds off Alex Volkov's (Grand Canyon) time.

Freshman Samantha Synsvoll earned more quality points for the Pioneers with a sixth-place finish in the women's 200 free in a time of 1:47.97. Classmate Pierce Bickerton took 13th in the men's 200 free with a time of 1:38.28.

The night wrapped up with the 800 free relays. The women's quartet of Synsvoll, Tenaya Winter, Isa Cardenas and Rachjaibun combined for a time of 7:21.06 to finish fourth.
