Denver Stifles UConn in Conference Opener

DENVER -- The University of Denver women's lacrosse team dominated in its 15-4 win over the UConn Huskies on Sunday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. 

Denver won the opening draw and never trailed, as Thomsen-Marr opened the scoring at 13:47 of the first quarter, corralling her own rebound off a Ripple shot to put the Pioneers on top 1-0. Dineen added a free-position goal with 4:32 remaining in the quarter to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Pioneers kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter. Ripple converted a woman-up free-position opportunity at 9:45, and after UConn cut the deficit to two, Denver responded with a five-goal run. Thomsen-Marr finished a feed from Ripple, and Ripple and Keil traded the feed and scores to make it 7-1. Bowers capped the half with a goal off a Harris assist with 27 seconds remaining to push the advantage to 8-2 at halftime.

Denver continued to control play in the third quarter, outscoring UConn 4-1 to extend the lead to 12-3. Keil capitalized on a pair of free position opportunities, Ripple converted off a Thomsen-Marr feed, followed by Harris's second goal of the season to keep the momentum in favor of the Pioneers. 

Denver added three more in the fourth to secure the 15-4 win in the Big East Conference opener. 

KEY PERFORMANCES
Ripple and Keil led the Pioneers' offense with four goals apiece, Ripple added a pair of assists, draw controls and caused turnovers to her stat line. 
Carly Frohnapfel made a career-best four caused turnovers while Megan Klingenberg and Landry Grover each added three. Kiri Weber grabbed five ground balls and Ava Welty added three. 
Lindsey Wilmot led the draw with five wins in the circle.
