Denver Outlasts Marquette in Wednesday Matinee

DENVER – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team battled to a 15-9 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Wednesday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Olivia Ripple sttruck first for the Pioneers, just a minute into the game off a feed from Karleigh Mutch, followed by a quick goal by Caroline Keil in transition to give DU an early 2-0 lead. The Pioneers poured on the offense in the second quarter. Thomsen-Marr and Keil capitalized on transition opportunities, and Caroline Bowers and Mutch scored on free-position looks to give Denver an 11-5 lead at halftime.

Thomsen-Marr opened the scoring in the third quarter but Marquette held the momentum for the remainder of the frame with caused turnovers in key moments and three unanswered goals to cut the Pioneer lead to 12-8 with one quarter remaining.

Kyra Obert swung the momentum back in favor of the Pioneers with a big goal through the Marquette double team, two and a half minutes into the final frame. Marquette responded with a goal less than a minute later, but a Ripple free-position score and Ryan Dineen tally secured the 15-9 win for the Pioneers.
