No. 71 Denver Men’s Tennis Earns 7-0 Sweep at Omaha

DU finishes regular season with 5-0 Summit League record following Sunday’s result

OMAHA, Nebraska – The No. 71-ranked University of Denver men's tennis team (16-5, 5-0 Summit) ended its 2026 regular season with a 7-0 win at Omaha on Sunday afternoon.

After securing the Summit League regular season title on Friday, Denver finished off the weekend with its eighth consecutive win and its fifth sweep of the season, three of which came in Summit League play.

Doubles:
DU captured the doubles point for the 10th time in the last 11 matches with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 courts. Senior Raffaello Papajcik and freshman Aaron Beduhn got the Pioneers halfway to the point with a 6-2 win – their third 6-2 or better result over their last four matches. Of the eight games played, six featured breaks, four of which went to the team from Denver including in the opening game. Beduhn/Papajcik never trailed and broke in the penultimate game before serving it out.

A couple minutes later, DU's No. 2 team of senior Ryoma Mishiro and sophomore Samuel Rovai clinched the point. Unlike Beduhn/Papajcik's match, Mishiro/Rovai's stayed on serve all the way until the 10th and final game, which saw the Pioneers get the break to win the match.

The top doubles match featuring graduate student Connor Robb-Wilcox and sophomore Theo Coats break to stay alive for 4-5 and held for 5-5 in the final game played before the match was abandoned.

Singles:
Singles play proved to be contentious with four of the matches going to third sets, though all six went the way of the Denver player.

Coats had the easiest path to his win, losing just one game in each set and becoming his second win on the weekend with just two total games lost. He took quick leads in both sets, going ahead 4-0 and 4-1, respectively. The DU sophomore gave one break back in the first set but followed the game up with an immediate break of his own to lead, 5-1, before serving it out. In the second set, he also gained a 5-1 advantage but broke in the final game to end it.

The only other straight-sets singles match of the day found Rovai in a tale of two sets. The first forced Rovai to fight after losing his first service game but going on to break with Omaha's Bryan Kuntz serving for it at 5-4 to stay alive. The set headed to a tiebreak where Kuntz again held the early lead before Rovai got level at 5-5 and did not trail again on his way to an 8-6 win. He carried the momentum into the second set and did not lose a game, winning a bagel set for the second time in 2026.

Beduhn clinched the dual at No. 6 singles, winning two 6-1 sets sandwiched around a second set that went to Omaha's Caleb Peterson. In both of the sets he won, Beduhn had the only breaks and held a 5-1 lead, setting him up to successfully serve out both frames.

Next to finish was the No. 1 match, which also saw a Pioneer win the first set before being forced to close it out in a third. Papajcik was down a break early in the first set but got back on serve at 2-3. A break for the DU senior in the ninth game was followed by a Papajcik hold for a 6-4 win. UNO's Liam Spiers rallied back for a win in the second set, forcing a competitive third set that had only one break, coming off Papajcik's racquet for 3-1. Three service holds later, and the match went to Denver.

Playing against his former team, Mishiro completed a comeback from a set down to get the win at the No. 4 spot. After losing the first set, he broke in the opening game of the second set and added a second break two games later. Up 5-1 and with Omaha's Maddox Lindell serving to stay in the set, Mishiro broke for a third time, sending the match to a deciding set. This time, it was Lindell who broke early twice, but Mishiro stormed back with six consecutive games won after trailing 0-4 to seal the win with a 6-4 final set.

Robb-Wilcox secured the sweep for DU at No. 5 singles, breaking twice on his way to a 6-3 first set. UNO's Pavan Uppu stayed alive with a 6-4 win in the second set, but Robb-Wilcox reclaimed control with a break in his first return game of the third set. He stretched the lead to 5-2 before breaking one final time in what would be the final game for 6-2.
