Denver Women’s Tennis Chosen for ITA Kickoff Weekend at LSU

DU earns No. 4 seed for annual January event, will face host LSU on first day of play

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team will play at the annual ITA Kickoff Weekend in 2027, the ITA announced on Wednesday.

Denver was selected to the site hosted by LSU. Joining No. 4-seeded Denver and No. 1-seeded host LSU will be No. 2 seed SMU and No. 3 seed Mississippi State.

Play will be held on January 22-24, 2027, at the start of the spring dual season. DU will take on LSU to open up play on the first day of play, as will SMU and Mississippi State in a neutral-site match. The winners of the two duals will then meet the next day while the other two teams play in a consolation dual.

First Round: January 22 or 23
No. 1 LSU vs. No. 4 Denver
No. 2 SMU vs. No. Mississippi State

Second Round: January 23 or 24

Consolation Match: January 23 or 24

The ITA Kickoff Weekend pits 56 teams across 14 campus sites each January and serves as a qualification event for the 2027 ITA National Indoor Championship, which is set for February 5-9, 2027. Of the 56 teams in the initial draw, the 14 winners at each ITA Kickoff Weekend site will earn berths to the National Indoor Championship where they will join automatic qualifiers and hosts Ohio State and Michigan.

This will be Denver's second time playing in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in the last three seasons. DU most recently played in 2025, earning the No. 3 seed for the site hosted by Texas A&M but fell, 1-4, to No. 2 seed TCU. In total, Denver has now been selected for the ITA Kickoff Weekend 13 times since 2019.

The University of Denver women's tennis team is preparing for its first season as a member of the West Coast Conference with the transition officially set for July 1. DU's fall tournament schedule will be released this summer while its complete spring dual schedule – including ITA Kickoff Weekend – will be released later in the fall.
