DENVER – The University of Denver officially joined the West Coast Conference as a competing member on Wednesday, July 1, and over the last week, DenverPioneers.com has taken a look at storylines associated with the conference transition.
Denver's men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis programs have combined for 61 NCAA Tournament appearances since the athletic department joined the Division I ranks in the modern era in 1998-99.
Many of the West Coast Conference programs on the other hand have been Division I athletic departments as far back as they can remember. Below is a breakdown of how Denver's four spring-sport championship programs that are joining the West Coast Conference this year compare to their new conference counterparts.
Women's Golf:
Only Denver's skiing (28) and gymnastics (27) programs have qualified for more NCAA Regional Tournament appearances than Denver women's golf since 1999 (23).
The Pioneers have won 20 conference tournament titles since joining the Division I ranks and have made three NCAA Championship appearances in their DI history. DU qualified for the championship in three consecutive seasons, playing the old format of a 72-hole tournament in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Ranked 10th in the country, Pepperdine won the 2026 West Coast Conference Women's Golf Championship by 14 strokes, combining for a 1-over par score at the three-day event.
The women's golf tournament format matches what the Pioneers played in the Summit League: three rounds played across three days.

Men's Golf:
Denver men's golf has made the NCAA Regional Tournament 12 times since the Pioneers rejoined Division I in the late 90s, with the last three appearances coming in consecutive seasons from 2019-22.
Combining all eras of the top division of golf in the NCAA, the Pioneers made seven trips to the NCAA National Championships with the last one coming in 1960. Denver's best finish was in 1953 when the Pioneers took 10th at the national tournament. Former Pioneer Charles Lind won the individual national championship in 1946 with a score of 143.
The conference tournament format sees the teams play 36 holes on the opening day and 18 holes on day two. Following three rounds of stroke play, four teams advance to the match-play semifinals on the third morning of competition, and the two semifinal winners turn right around for a match-play final that afternoon.
Pepperdine defeated Oregon State 4-1 in the match-play final to lift the trophy.
