Scott Batula is in his third season as an assistant coach on the University of Denver women’s triathlon team in fall 2025.
 
He served as a volunteer assistant for the program in its first three seasons of existence from 2020-2022 and has supported the Pioneers at each of the four collegiate national championship races.
 
In his role, Batula assists head coach Barbara Perkins in creating weekly practices plans, optimizing training for the athletes in order to produce the best race strategy based on the course, available equipment and skill level. He primarily focuses on the cycling portion of the race.
 
The Honolulu, Hawaii, native trains other athletes on the islands and started in coaching by guiding his wife, former professional triathlete Lectie Altman.
 
Prior to coaching, Batula competed in triathlons for more than 12 years, largely in long-distance races. He is a multiple-time Ironman and Ironman 70.3 finisher, including the Kona Ironman World Championship.
 
He also serves as a firefighter for the Honolulu Fire Department.
