Kirk Bast begins his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Pioneers. Formerly the head coach of both the boys and girls soccer teams (he still heads the girls team in the spring) at Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colo., Bast boasts an impressive coaching resumé.
Bast[apos]s boys teams at Arapahoe won three Colorado state championships in his tenure and his girls squads have captured four. He has coached six National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America honorees and two Parade All-Americans. He was named Colorado High School Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1997, and was honored by the National High School Coaches Association as the National Girls High School Coach of the Year in 1998. He has also been the Colorado High School Girls Coach of the Year five times, including in 2002 when he won his fourth state title.
Bast earned his bachelor[apos]s degree from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo., where he also played two seasons of soccer for the Hawks. He then went on to get his Master[apos]s of Education in Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1985.
Overall as a head coach, Bast has accumulated a record of 449-78-36 (.830) in 14 seasons.
