Lindsay Werntz enters her third season as the associate head coach and her fifth season with the program overall in 2024-25.
2020-21:
In her first season under Woods, Werntz helped run the offense and install a new type of efficient offense that put pressure on the defense on all three levels, resulting in the team being ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA in free throw attempts (42nd), free throws made (28th), free throw percentage (36th), 3s attempted (28th), 3s made (32nd) and 3s made per game (13th).
2021-22:
Denver's offense finished 22nd in the country in free-throw percentage (76.7), 39th in three-pointers attempted (741), 68th in three-pointers made (220) and 56th in three-pointers made per game (7.3) in Werntz second season in-charge of the Denver offense.Â
2022-23:
After being elevated to the associate head coach role in the offseason, Werntz helped lead Denver to a fie for fifth in the Summit League, moving three spots up the ladder from the season before.Â
Werntz' long ball elite offense finished seventh in the country in three-point attempts per game (27.5) and 18th in three-pointers made per game (8.4). She coached all-conference selection Emma Smith to lead the Summit League in three-point field goals per game (2.69).
2023-24:
Under Werntz' long ball elite offense, the Pioneers finished 10th in the country in three-point attempts per game (27.4) and 29th in three-pointers made per game (8.2).Â
2024-25:
Denver’s offense finished 44th in the country in three-point attempts per game (24.2) and 98th in three-pointers made per game (7). Werntz’s offense finished 14th in the country in made free throws per game (78.3).
PRIOR TO DENVER:
Werntz was named an assistant coach on Doshia Woods staff on August 20, 2020.Â
Werntz came to Denver after eight seasons with Woods and the Tulane staff as the Director of Women’s Basketball Operations for the Green Wave. While with Tulane, Werntz coordinated game scheduling and travel, oversaw the operating budget and the Mentor Program and served as liaison with the equipment staff.
Prior to joining the Green Wave’s staff, Werntz was the top assistant for two seasons at Loyola University New Orleans where she helped the Wolfpack to a combined record of 43-18 and a 20-10 mark in conference play. Werntz helped guide the program to the NAIA National Tournament in 2011-12, finishing 23-6 and 14-4 in the league. Prior to her stint in New Orleans, Werntz was the head coach in 2007-08 at Hill College, and held other assistant positions at Nevada (2006-07), Midland College (2004-06) and Florida Gulf Coast (2002-03).
Werntz played her college basketball at Purdue Fort Wayne.
Lindsay Werntz and Doshia Woods have been married since 2011.Â
