Josie Owen returns as Denver’s volunteer assistant coach in 2016. Owen previously coached the Pioneers in 2013 and 2014.

In 2014, the Pioneers advanced to their second-straight NCAA Tournament, where they beat Jacksonville to advance to the Round of 16. Denver went undefeated in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for the second season in a row in 2014 and finished the year with a 19-2 record.

In Owen's first season in Denver, the Pioneers made their first NCAA Tournament, where they beat Jacksonville to advance to the Round of 16. Denver finished the 2013 season with an 18-3 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. DU was ranked No. 16 in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Crimson and Gold ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers (11.76), fourth in win percentage (.857), fifth in points (433.0) and ninth in scoring offense (13.9). Denver broke a team record, set a season before, by winning 15-straight games.

A native of Denver, Owen spent most of her youth in Gibson Island, Md., and graduated from the University of Virginia in 2012 with a degree in History and Media Studies.

At UVA, Owen was selected to the IWLCA All-American Second Team and was one of 25 nominees for the 2012 Tewaaraton Award, given to the nation's top female collegiate women's lacrosse player. As a senior co-captain, Owen was named to the All-ACC team and ACC All-Tournament Team. Additionally, she was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on March 27. Owen was a four-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team member, and in 2012 she was selected to the 2012 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

In 2007, Owen helped the U-19 USA Lacrosse team win the gold medal at the world championship in Canada, earning a spot on the All-World Team at the conclusion of the tournament.
