Between both men's and women's programs, Karen is the longest running volunteer tennis coach in Denver Tennis history, volunteering her time and effort for well over the last decade. Clark was named the ITA Mountain Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020-21.Â
On the court, Karen was amongst the best junior tennis players in the country and a professional tour prospect. She was once ranked in the top-20 in U.S. juniors and proceeded to become the top player on scholarship for the University of Maryland.
As a certified PTR tennis professional, Karen has worked with top national juniors, eventually bringing her years of experience to the DUÂ where she's served not only as a volunteer assistant coach but also as full-time assistant coach for 2 years from 2007 to 2009 -- with the 2008 season still standing as the best season on record for the Lady Pioneers marked by a top-20 national ranking and the program's first-ever Division 1 NCAA tournament win.
Karen and her husband Raoul, who played for ACC rival - University of Virginia, have two daughters and a son. She is incredibly engaged with local Denver community and has been a tremendous liaison for Denver's tennis teams working with local tennis clubs such as the Denver Country Club, often acting a connector for graduating student-athletes as they enter careers outside of tennis in the local community.
