Box Score DENVER -- Junior setter Clarice Golesh (Lakewood, Colo. / Mullen HS) had a career-high 12 kills to tie for match-high honors in leading the University of Denver volleyball team to a 3-0 (15-11, 15-10, 15-12) sweep of Louisiana Tech in Sun Belt Conference action Friday night at Hamilton Gymnasium. With its second straight win, Denver improves to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the Sun Belt, while the Lady Techsters fall to 6-13 and 0-5.
Denver's excellent passing led to numerous "dump" opportunities for Golesh, whose 12 kills were matched by senior outside hitter Sarah Kaye (Aurora, Colo. / Smoky Hill HS) and Tech's Julia Mann. The Pioneers' improved passing also allowed Golesh to run an evenly distributed offense; five of Denver's six players reached double figures in kills.
Joining Golesh and Kaye were sophomore OH Julie Crockett (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Rampart HS) who tied a career high with 11 kills; and sophomore MB Lulu Sewell (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas HS) and junior OH Kellie Savage (Arvada, Colo. / Arvada HS) with 10 kills each. Sewell had a double-double with her 10 kills and 11 digs; she also led Denver with four blocks.
"We were really aggressive with our attack tonight and were able to move the ball around and block," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "This was probably our most consistent match of the season, but it wasn't played at our highest level. Clarice Golesh showed that she has the potential to be multi-dimensional tonight; it's just a matter of making smart choices. She did that tonight."
Tonight's match was tape-delayed for broadcast by KWHD-TV 53, which will air the contest tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 1 p.m. Denver's next match is Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. vs. New Mexico State.
