BIG ISLAND, Hawaii- The University of Denver men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule Tuesday with a third-place finish at the University of Hawaii Invitational held at the Waikoloa Golf Course. The Pioneers finished with a two-day team score of 936, 72-over par. Denver finished 33 strokes behind tournament host Hawaii, who won the event by shooting a 39-over par 903. International Pacific finished second with a 49-over par 913.
Top individuals for Denver included sohomore Tommy Hart (Englewood, Colo.), who had the highest finish of any Pioneer in the fall season as he tied for third place with five other golfers at 11-over par 227. Hart shot 73-78-76 in his three rounds. Also placing well for Denver was junior Erik Billinger (Broomfield, Colo.), who tied for 10th-place with a 13-over par 229.
Rounding out the scoring for Denver was senior Jimmy Middleton (Nashville, Ill.), who finished in 18th place with a 23-over par 239; sophomore John Buffalo (Pueblo, Colo.), who finished tied for 21st with a 26-over par 242; and junior John Hulwick (Littleton, Colo.), who tied for 23rd with a 27-over par 243.
This was the last fall tournament for the Denver golf team this season. Denver will resume play Monday, Feb. 13 when they play in the Beau Rivage College Classic in Gulfport, Miss.
