LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 19) -- Denver lost for the first time in eight matches and fell to 12-3 on the season in dual-meet action losing 2-5 to the host Loyola Marymount Lions Sunday, March 19. Denver's lone two points came at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, and despite a victory at No. 2 doubles, the Pioneers failed to earn the lone point dropping the matches at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles.
"Hopefully this will get us ready for the Cal-Irvine tournament (next week)," said Denver coach Rob Oertel. "We need good opponents outdoors on the road and this was a good match for us to play (Sunday). We play No. 42-ranked San Diego State (Monday) and that will be a tough one for us. SDSU is a big one for us and we need that challenge to keep getting better."
Denver's Tomasz Wawrzyniak defeated LMU's Carsten Eisendarth 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and improved to 12-2 on the season while Jay Patel was victorious for the Pioneers at No. 4 defeating LMU's Erik Nelson-Kortland 6-3, 6-1. Patel improved to 11-3 on the season in dual-match play.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday when they face San Diego State at 1:30 p.m. in San Diego, Calif. Match-by-match results are listed below.
