Denver Men’s Tennis Adds Alex Kotarski, Platon Tsarenko for 2026-27

Junior transfer from Xavier, freshman from Spain round out DU roster for next season

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team will welcome Alex Kotarski and Platon Tsarenko for the 2026-27 season, head coach Drew Eberly announced on Wednesday.

Kotarski will transfer to Denver with two years of eligibility remaining while Tsarenko will be a first-year student-athlete.

Kotarski began his collegiate career with two seasons at Xavier, picking up 33 singles wins and 22 doubles wins. In 2025-26, he played up and down the singles lineup but finished the year split between Nos. 1 and 2. Similarly, he split time across the top two doubles spots for Xavier last year, finishing with seven consecutive appearances at No. 1 and going unbeaten in those matches.

The Hinsdale, Illinois, native earned All-BIG EAST second-team honors in 2025-26 and led his team with 13 singles wins in dual match play – three of which came in conference matches.

Tsarenko calls Valencia, Spain, home but represents his birth country of Ukraine. He achieved a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 337 in January, 2026, and currently ranks No. 372. In 2025, he won the singles title at an ITF J60 tournament in Majadahonda, Spain, and he advanced to the semifinals of a J100 tournament in Alicante, Spain, and a J60 tournament in Valldoreix, Spain.

In doubles, he captured three ITF titles in 2025: J100 in Saint Gregoire, France; J60 in Majadahonda; and J100 in Barcelona. He also made a semifinal appearance at the J200 tournament in Vigo, Spain.

Kotarski and Tsarenko become the third and fourth new Pioneers to the 2026-27 DU roster, joining Roman Glarner and Rafe Samuel, who signed in November as incoming first-year players.

Denver is coming off its third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance after winning its eighth Summit League title in what was DU's final season as a member of the league. The University of Denver is preparing for its transition to becoming a member of the West Coast Conference on July 1.
