STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Mar. 22) -- The University of Denver men's lacrosse team snapped its two-game losing streak in convincing fashion by handing Division I newcomer Wagner a 24-1 defeat at Wagner College Stadium this afternoon. The margin of victory is the Pioneers' largest since 1993.
Freshman Mike Kenlay (Wilmat, Ill.) paced the Pioneers offensively with four goals and an assist. The Pioneers got three goals apiece from the Englewood, Colo., trio of senior Geoff Bieging, junior Mike Law and freshman Clark Woodard. Freshman Adam Stifel (Bethseda, Md.) also recorded three tallies for Denver (5-2). Bryan Gallagher scored the lone goal for Wagner (0-4).
Freshman goalkeeper Jeff Nunziato (Latham, N.Y.) stopped five shots en route to his first win as a Pioneer. Wagner netminders Chris Curti and Chris Gerlach combined to make 15 saves.
The Pioneers close a three-game East Coast road swing this Saturday when they square off against Providence.
