DENVER (Apr. 15) -- Mike Law led a balanced scoring attack with three goals and four assists as the University of Denver posted a 15-10 win over Radford at a chilly Pioneer Field on Saturday. Denver (8-3) is now guaranteed a winning record for the first time since 1996 while the Highlanders (3-7) saw their two-game win streak come to an end.
The Pioneers took control of the game by scoring seven straight first-half goals after the Highlanders rallied to tie the score at two a little more than five minutes into the opening frame. The run was keyed by Law, who scored all three of his goals and handed out two assists during the Denver spurt. The Pioneers held Radford at bay the remainder of the game, not allowing the Highlanders to narrow the Denver lead to less than five in the second half.
In addition to Law's seven-point night, the Pioneers got two goals apiece from Geoff Bieging, Mike Kenlay, Chad Wittman and Clark Woodard. Lewis Ratcliff paced the Highlanders with a game-high four goals and an assist. Denver goaltenders Brian Berger and Jeff Nunziato combined to make 12 saves while Radford's Shane King stopped eight shots.
The Pioneers continue play next weekend with a pair of Great Western Lacrosse League battles. Denver travels to Ohio State on Friday before squaring off against Butler in Indianapolis on Sunday, April 23.
