Pioneer Men's Lacrosse Eases Past Manhattan

DENVER (Apr. 7) -- The University of Denver got goals from eight different players, including three apiece from freshman Clark Woodard and juniors Travis Taylor and Mike Law, as the host Pioneers posted a 15-6 win over Manhattan on Friday. Denver improves to 7-3 with the win while the Jaspers fall to 2-7.

The Pioneers took control of the game thanks to a 9-2 run spanning the second and third quarters that turned a 2-2 tie after 15 minutes of play into an 11-4 lead for the home team. Included in that run was a stretch of seven straight Denver goals from 2:48 of the period to 1:23 of the third frame. Markers by freshman Mike Kenlay, Taylor, Woodard and senior Geoff Bieging gave the Pioneers a 6-3 lead at the half. Woodard, freshman Glenn Berglund, Law, Taylor and sophomore Chad Wittman finished the run in the third stanza.

Law led all scorers with an assist in addition to his hat trick. Ken Rose paced Manhattan with a pair of tallies. Denver goaltender Jeff Nunziato made seven saves en route to his second win of the year. Manhattan's James Amandola turned aside 14 shots.

The Pioneers close out the home portion of their 2000 schedule on Saturday, April 15, when they host Radford. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
