Box Score OXFORD, Ohio -- Jennifer Eaton tied match highs with 15 kills and four blocks to lead the Miami University volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep (15-11, 16-14, 15-9) win over the University of Denver on Saturday morning in the Miami University/JustBalls.com Classic in Oxford, Ohio.
Denver (0-2) held leads late in both of the first two games -- including a pair of game points in game two -- before Miami pulled ahead to take each game. In the third, the Pioneers took an early lead but the host RedHawks (2-0) slowly chipped away before taking a 9-8 lead they would not relinquish.
Junior outside hitter Kellie Savage (Arvada, Colo. / Arvada West) led Denver for the second straight match with 15 kills, and senior OH Sarah Kaye (Aurora, Colo. / Smoky Hill) notched the Pioneers' first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Andrea Baron (West Vancouver, British Columbia / West Vancouver Secondary) made a good debut and finished with five kills and a match-high-tying four blocks in two games of action.
"The biggest thing from this morning's match is that we need to see how much we can adapt, make changes and learn from things we need to improve on so we don't continue to play at this level," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "Our play was better than yesterday, so I think we accomplished that from last match. I also thought that Andrea Baron did a nice job in the middle today."
Denver concludes tournament play later Saturday afternoon with a match against Texas Christian at 3 p.m. MDT.
