SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The No. 25 University of Denver men's soccer team dropped its second consecutive game Sunday afternoon, falling at Sacramento State, 1-0. With their second consecutive loss, the Pioneers fall to 6-4-3 on the season, 0-2-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Sacramento State improves to 2-6-2, 1-1-0.

Unlike Friday's game at San Diego State where the Pioneers were outshot by a hefty margin, Denver outshot the Hornets Sunday by a 16-4 margin, though just four of those shots were on target. Sacramento State goalkeeper Chris Haustein stopped three Pioneers' shots and had another bounce off the post as he kept Denver scoreless for the second straight game.

The two teams managed just nine shots in the first half of action but both came out determined in the second half. Denver managed 11 shots in the second half to Sacramento State's 10, but it was a foul inside the Pioneer goal box that would prove to be the difference in the match.

Sacramento State's Sean Luigs took the penalty kick for the Hornets after a Denver foul inside the penalty box in the 58th minute gave the Hornets their chance. Luigs took advantage as he scored his third goal of the season and gave the Hornets their first win since Sept. 2.

Denver had gone six straight games without a loss before Friday and have now dropped two straight and stand at 0-2 in conference play for the first time ever. It doesn't get any easier for Denver either as they host UNLV and New Mexico this weekend.

The Pioneers are next in action this Friday, Oct. 19 when they take on MPSF foe UNLV at 3 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
