MOBILE, Ala. - Senior Kristin Savage (Arvada, Colo. / Arvada West HS) led all players with a team-season-high 21 digs, and five of the six Pioneer starters recorded double-doubles, as the University of Denver won a 3-2 thriller (30-26, 25-30, 30-28, 24-30, 15-11) over South Alabama in Sun Belt Conference volleyball action Saturday night at Jaguar Gym.

Five players recorded double-digit kills for Denver (11-14, 6-7 Sun Belt), which broke a two-match losing skid. Junior Lulu Sewell (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas HS) led the way for the Pioneers with 16 kills and 13 digs, she was trailed closely by senior outside hitter Kellie Savage (Arvada, Colo. / Arvada West HS) with 15 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore middle blockers Andrea Baron (West Vancouver, British Columbia HS) led all players with 10 blocks, and contributed 14 kills as well.

Senior all-Sun Belt setter Clarice Golesh-Burch (Lakewood, Colo. / Mullen HS) quarterbacked the team with 61 assists, she also had 12 digs on the defensive end.

Denver hit a scalding .429 in the fifth and deciding game, compared to just .150 for the host Jaguars. USA's serving kept them in the match, as the Jaguars had a whopping 14 service aces.

"We played a much stronger match tonight," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "Defensively, we did what we didn't do last night (a 3-2 loss at New Orleans). Our outside hitters did a lot better, and our passing was a lot better tonight."

The Pioneers return home next weekend for their final matches prior to hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Nov. 14-17. Denver faces Louisiana-Lafayette this Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
