Men's Tennis Falls to Central Florida, 5-1

DENVER - Due to cold weather, the University of Denver men’s tennis team was forced to move to the inside courts at Heather Ridge Racket Club in Aurora, Colo., for its home opener against Central Florida, today. The Pioneers fell to UCF, 5-1.

Due to a lack of court time, the singles matches were played first and the teams did not compete at doubles because Central Florida had already wrapped up the victory following singles play. Denver lost all but one match on the singles courts, as only junior Jay Patel (Ahemedabad, India) managed a win, defeating UCF’s Augusto Sanabria in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 5-5 on the year. Denver will return to the courts again Saturday (Mar. 17) for a 6:30 p.m. match against Loyola Marymount. The contest will again be played at Heather Ridge Racket Club.
